Michael Cera Sought for Lead Role in Facebook Movie
by webmaster on Jun.29, 2009, under Latest News

Michael Cera is being considered for playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming movie based on the book "The Accidental Billionares" by Ben Mezrich
Michael Cera Considered Top Pick!
Planning for a movie about the origins of the ever popular Facebook are in the works based on a book by Ben Mezrich called The Accidental Billionares. So far it looks like David Fincher may be directing the Columbia Pictures movie written by Aaron Sorkin, the creator of The West Wing. Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Academy Award wining actor Kevin Spacey are producing the movie which has a possibility of being called The Social Network.
In search for the lead role playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is focusing on Michael Cera who is a very likable personality by younger audiences. In the book Mark Zuckerberg is not portrayed in a very favorable light but summed up as an “obnoxious nerd” which would not likely be alluring at the box office. Michael Cera playing the role could make the Facebook founder appear more sympathetic to audiences due to Cera’s ability to appeal to teens and young adults. Movies like Superbad and Juno along with televison series Arrested Development has cast Michael Cera into the spotlight with his role being more of an awkward nerd but adorable character.
Recently we saw Michael Cera move slightly away from roles of the past to play an outcast caveman with Jack Black in the movie Year One released June 19th, 2009 and we should expect to see more diversity in roles as the actor evolves into more popular demand for leading roles in coming years.
Also considered for the role of Mark Zuckerberg is Transformers star Shia LaBeouf who has some great qualities in playing the part but Michael Cera is considered the top choice according to an entertainment industry insider. He just has that appeal to the type of movie goer that a picture about Facebook would attract.
Tell us what you think about Michael Cera possibly landing the part of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. What do you think???

I’m generally in favor of anything that might mean Michael is back on screen. However, it’d be even more awesome if he finally found the time to really stay in touch with his fans on facebook and twitter a little more. I know, he must be very busy, being so famous and all…but I really miss more comments from him.

They just casted Justin Timberlake in “The Social Network” as mark zuckerberg. But michael cera still has a chance to be in it.

I totally agree with this line: “Cera has defined himself by being an almost indefinable half-person you can all but ignore, until you realize long after you’ve stopped watching that he’s the one you remember.”
I enjoyed Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist and Superbad.
Michael Cera is GREAT!
I’m looking forward to his future projects.

well my initial feelings are that michael cera would not be able to make mark zuckerberg more likeable…the guy’s a doucheface, and i’d hate to associate michael’s face w/ a doucheface. on the other hand, it’s david fincher and aaron sorkin. a real toss-up, but i’d understand taking it.

I think Michael would be able to do the part well! And wouldn’t it be interesting to see him act as a character that is described as “obnoxious”? Haha!
Anyway, I bet it’ll be awesome! Way to go Michael, Im rooting for ya!

I think it sounds awesome, but am I the only one who noticed that the last paragraph says “Mark ZUckerman?” It just made me laugh a little bit…

All due respect to Michael Cera as I am a huge fan, this sounds like a terrible movie. The marketing and demographic they’re marketing to will be extremely muttled all while attempting to shine a light on an already ridiculous “business” (facebook).

I think Michael would be a pretty good candidate for this movie. He can be obnoxious, if he wants. He was “obnoxious” in Superbad. If the thing about Superbad II was real, that would be cool.

Listen, Michael is a quiet role player. He hasn’t been the kind to YELL in a movie yet. He hasn’t been an OBNOXIOUS nerd in any film, but if he tries, he will be brilliant. Sorry to say, but I love Shia LaBeouf and Michael Cera. This will be difficult for me…

I have seen Mark Zuckerberg on tv and he is obnoxious and i think michael would do a great job as him in the movie. of course it should be funny too. what kind of movie would it be if michael wasn’t funny in it… duh
